A 6.1 magnitude earthquake in the gulf near Cuba caused tremors across Florida but officials report no tsunami threat or injuries.

A magnitude 6.1 earthquake struck off the coast of Cuba, shaking Florida's major ports and cruise destinations in Mexico and the Caribbean.

Cuba experienced a shake on the afternoon of Monday, June 8, as a preliminary 6.1 magnitude earthquake was reported off the island's western coast.

The earthquake, at at 6.1 magnitude on the Richter scale and located 73 miles WNW of Mantua, Cuba, led to reports of "shaking around the Orlando, Jacksonville, and Miami areas," Kole Fehling, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service, said in a statement to FLORIDA TODAY.
